First Stitches

So it was a typical A-Shift evening, meaning Shane was at work, and we were getting ready for bed. I had both kids in the bath when I got up to get their clariton. Hadley's really into being first right now so she sprung up saying, "Me first!!" when the next thing I heard was a loud bang. I turned around and she was crying. I picked her up from the tub and held her asking where her boo boo was when suddenly I saw it. It was a gash, a little less than an inch long, on the bottom side of her chin. The first thing I did was wrap her up and reach for my cell to call Shane. He told me to come up to the station so that he could look at it. As quickly as I could I dried off and dressed both kids. I called Erin to make arrangements for Brooks. He ended up spending some time with Katie and Luke while I took Hadley to the fire station.
When we got to the fire station Hadley was still upset. But when they gave her a sucker she calmed down pretty quickly. We talked through several ideas and eventually decided to glue it together. Hadley and I made the trip to pick up the glue from Walgreens but while we were out Shane called to tell us that they had gotten ahold of Hadley's pediatrician, Dr. Wiley, and that Dr. Wiley was going to come up to the station to give her stitches. Try explaining that to a two year old. Sweet little girl didn't know what was about to happen.
We went back to the station and sure enough Dr. Wiley came to our rescue at 8:00 at night. It took about 3 firefighters holding my baby down to do the procedure. The worst part was the numbing shot. She was in a lot of pain for that. After she was numb the doctor gave her two stitches. The fire fighters were so sweet to her, telling her she was doing great, and giving her a beany baby dog to hold. Dr. Wiley worked fast and before we knew it she was done.
They all talked about how brave she was and how well she had done. Truly, I have one tough little girl! And she'll have a tiny scar to show it.
